What is Royal Family KIDS Camp?
What is Royal Family KIDS Camp?Royal Family KIDS Camp of Northeast Iowa is a free, trauma-informed, faith-based summer camp for children ages 7-11 who have experienced abuse, neglect, or family instability. For five days, kids get to be kids. Trained staff provide 5 days of experiences and relationships that can change the trajectory of a child’s life.
For The Children is the national nonprofit network that trains and supports local camps like ours to provide trauma-informed care and life-changing experiences for children in foster care.
Campers enjoy activities like outdoor games, arts and crafts, swimming, cabin time, and special events such as Everybody’s Birthday Party. In addition campers develop meaningful relationships with trained volunteers who walk alongside them.
This video from For The Children shares the heart behind Royal Family KIDS Camp. As part of this global network, our local chapter follows the same trauma-informed, faith-based model that has served children in foster care for decades.
These moments capture a glimpse of what camp looks like in Northeast Iowa. Each photo represents a memory made, a relationship formed, and confidence built. Children in our communities experience a week of safety, joy, and hope thanks to our generous volunteers and financial supporters.
Who We ServeWe serve children in foster care, ages 7-11, who have experienced childhood trauma related to abuse, neglect, or family instability. These experiences can make traditional summer camps difficult to access or emotionally overwhelming.
Our local chapter serves up to 32 children each year from the following counties. Our child placement coordinator collaborates with social works, foster parents, and guardians from these counties to register kids for camp.
Allamakee, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd, Grundy, Howard, Mitchell, Winneshiek.
Our ApproachTrauma-Informed and Relationship-Driven
Royal Family KIDS Camp uses Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), a well-researched, trauma-informed care model, so every interaction supports healing, trust, and confidence building. Activities at camp are designed to create fun, lasting memories while providing space for emotional growth and connection.
